Packing Guidelines

1. Packing cardboard boxes:
The size of the box should be matched to the dimensions of the shipment so that nothing protrudes from the box and there is as little empty space inside as possible. For a box to fulfil its protective function, it must be of appropriate quality and preferably new. Avoid so-called “chip boxes,” i.e. very thin cartons not suitable for transporting heavier contents. The box should be fully filled; if the contents themselves do not provide this, cardboard or foam fillers can be used, or empty spaces can simply be filled with crumpled paper. The box must be securely sealed with good-quality tape; the best option is so-called silver mounting tape (available in stores such as Woodie’s or B&Q).
Combining shipments together is strictly prohibited. If they are separated, it is very difficult to locate the missing part of a parcel, as only one barcode label is attached to the shipment. The second, missing part is therefore not transported further and is sent to a warehouse without any identification. Items in a consolidated shipment should be wrapped in bubble wrap, placed in individual small boxes, and then packed into a master carton.

2. Packing electronic shipments:
Electronics such as TVs/monitors, home cinema systems, decoders, etc. should be packed in the manufacturer’s original packaging together with the original polystyrene inserts and fillers. Only items packed in this way are covered by transport insurance. No other items may be placed in boxes containing electronics except those that are part of the equipment. Additional items may cause damage during transport.
If the original packaging is unavailable, every effort must be made to ensure that the replacement packaging fully protects the contents. Electronics packed in non-original packaging are not insured and are shipped solely at the sender’s responsibility.

3. Packing bicycles:
Ideally, the bicycle should be packed in a cardboard box (available from bicycle shops). If no box is available, the following steps must be taken:

  1. remove the pedals from both sides,

  2. remove the front wheel and secure it along the frame,

  3. turn the handlebars parallel to the bicycle frame,

  4. cover the prepared bicycle with cardboard on both sides and then wrap it in foil.

4. Packing baby strollers:
Each stroller should be packed in a cardboard box, which must then be wrapped in stretch film. The packed box must comply with standard size and weight limits; otherwise, the transport price will be higher due to the oversized dimensions.

5. Packing bags, suitcases and backpacks:
Bags, suitcases and backpacks – i.e. fabric packaging – must be tightly wrapped in stretch film, including handles, grips and wheels, which are not needed by couriers for pulling or carrying and may even hinder transport, as they can damage other boxes when tightly stacked. The lack of stretch film often results in the identification label with the barcode coming off the bag. Locating such a shipment among a large number of parcels is very difficult.

6. Preparing a scooter/motorcycle for transport:
Drain the fuel tank. Protruding elements such as mirrors, factory containers, etc. must be removed and packed in a separate box.
Note: items such as helmets, non-factory anti-theft devices, etc. are not part of the standard vehicle equipment and must be sent separately as a cardboard shipment. Painted elements such as the fuel tank, fenders, fairings, etc. should be protected with bubble wrap. A copy of the registration document confirming the vehicle owner’s details must be attached to the motorcycle/scooter.

7. Packing non-standard items (for which it is difficult to fit a box):
Such items should be covered with cardboard and then thoroughly wrapped in stretch film. The recipient’s address details must be placed on the film.
Due to their delicate nature, musical instruments must be placed in a hard case and then additionally protected, e.g. with bubble wrap, and packed in a cardboard box. Only instruments secured in this way are covered by insurance.

9. Proper labelling of the shipment:
The box must display the full destination address, including the recipient’s first and last name or company name, address with postal code, and a contact phone number of the person to whom the shipment is to be delivered. Do not wrap boxes in grey or decorative paper. Boxes containing fragile items should be marked with “Fragile.” Additionally, the box may be wrapped in stretch film, although this is not required.
